Course Description

What Future? South Lake Union

The Seattle School District and the Downtown Seattle Association are formulating what an unprecedented school for Downtown Seattle should be. Public schools commonly best represent our view of community and our future into the next century. This school will be a significant cultural footprint in a neighborhood under ever-increasing pressure to increase density and grow much taller. In this comprehensive design studio, students will have the responsibility to decide, what best expresses the Seattle central urban core’s liveable future, a future for families and community’s children. As we draw from several contemporary and historic urban neighborhoods for precedents of a wide variety of schools. Students will individually decide what they see as the values that represent Seattle’s twenty-first century, and design a school that represents that twenty-first century future.
