Course Description

This studio will be an experiment in “virtual construction” focusing on steel structural systems, and using digital tools to ‘build’ a small but innovative structure in virtual space while seeking to maximize tectonic richness of detail. Projects will be entered in the ACSA/AISC Steel Design Competition for new ideas in high-rise steel tower design.

The project will be to develop innovative design ideas for a new US Coast Guard Museum and Headquarters facility, with a Post Exchange (PX) and other programmatic uses to be housed in a new-multi-story tower located in the Coast Guard’s existing facility along the industrial shoreline in Seattle’s SODO neighborhood.
