5 Months at Meiji

Allison Acosta, M.Arch ’17, is currently studying abroad at Meiji School of Science & Technology. Follow along on her blog as she embarks on this exciting five month long exchange program in Tokyo, studying architecture at Meiji SST.

The UW-Meiji Exchange is a college-wide exchange established in 2015 between the UW College of Built Environments & Meiji School of Science & Technology.

Similar to UW CBE, Meiji SST is comprised of multiple disciplines and students are able to take courses in Architecture, Architectural Theory, Urban Design, Urban History, and Structures. Meiji SST accepts students from Malaysia, India, Vietnam, Britain, France, Germany, Finland, Australia, New Zealand, and the United States which provides a truly international experience for exchange students.

The primary language of instruction at Meiji SST is English so while some introductory Japanese language courses are recommended prior to arrival, minimum Japanese language proficiency is not required in order to apply for this exchange.

UW CBE is able to nominate up to two CBE students (undergraduate or graduate) to study at Meiji for one semester.  Meiji’s academic year begins in spring instead of fall, thus students are selected for spring term studies.
