Course Description

This studio involved the exploration of planning and design for a multicultural culinary arts academy that is co-located with restaurants, mobile food service, kitchens and an urban agriculture center. Most people are introduced to other cultures through food, so the purpose of the facility is to encourage cultural connections in food growing, meal preparation and collective dining.

The site is at the intersection of two distinct Seattle neighborhoods; the Seattle Chinatown-International District and the Central District. The studio involved an immersive experience in cross-cultural history, current socio/economic dynamics and the application of methods to preserve traditional communities threatened by gentrification.
