Lecturer
Chad Robertson is a Lecturer in the Department of Architecture and teaches in both the Architecture and Landscape Architecture departments, leading the Furniture Design and Fabrication Studios. He holds an M.Arch from the University of Washington and was a Valle Scholar at Aalto University in Espoo, Finland. His teaching focus is in design/ build, furniture design, and digital fabrication.
Outside of teaching, Chad practices as a designer and co-owner of Chadhaus, a furniture company that has produced thousands of pieces of residential and commercial furniture nationally and internationally. He also cofounded Seahaus, an architecture practice he operates with his wife, Emily Robertson.
His research and interest focuses on the life cycle of materials, as well as architectural prefabrication and construction methods. He has an extensive background in various building arts and his teaching approach is centered on the process of moving from theoretical design into tangible built forms – an exploration of making as a form of architectural inquiry.
