How Will your Days be Spent:

This one-year, immersive experience (beginning in June 2027) will allow you hands-on experience under the guidance of expert mentorship while collaborating with internal disciplines and external clients, users, and consultants.

For the 2027-2028 year, the fellowship will be offered in either Tampa, FL or Madison, WI.

Open to undergraduate and graduate students, the studio will bring together 36 students from Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Urban Design & Planning, building interdisciplinary design, research, and communcation skills.

Join STEAM ASB

Alternative Spring Break (ASB) is a quarter-long program where students take a preparatory winter quarter seminar (SSc credit eligible) to learn about inclusive teaching pedagogies and then spend the week of UW’s Spring Break (March 21 – March 26, 2027) running culturally relevant & sustaining STEAM outreach programming (in teams of 3-5 UW students) with 3rd- to 12th-grade students in rural and Tribal communities across Washington State. During the spring break week, students also explore the communities they are placed in by engaging in hikes, museum visits, beach days, afterschool clubs and community cultural events.
Winter Quarter: You’ll take an EDUC 401 Winter Quarter Seminar (T/TH: 4:30-5:50). You’ll learn strategies for building curricula, managing a classroom, and teaching with a focus on equity. You’ll work with your team to finalize your curriculum.
Spring Break: You’ll travel with a team to one of our partner schools. You will stay at your program site and spend each day facilitating activities at the school and connecting with the students and community.

Calling all UW seniors!
Applications are now open for the 2026-27 Husky Leadership Certificate cohort!
You’ve spent your undergraduate years supporting communities, engaging in student organizations, conducting research, participating in athletics, advocating for change, mentoring peers, creating new ideas, and making an impact. Have you taken the time to reflect on what you’ve learned from those experiences and how they have shaped you as a leader?
The Husky Leadership Certificate (HLC) helps graduating seniors identify, reflect on, and showcase their leadership growth. Through the program, you’ll:
This program welcomes students who practice leadership in many forms. Our participants are change-makers, community builders, researchers, entrepreneurs, activists, athletes, artists, mentors, and more.

Participants complete an asynchronous online Winter 2027 course (LEAD 490), develop a leadership e-portfolio, work with a mentor, and present their learning at the Spring Celebration in May 2027.

Thinking about submitting a Student Technology Fee proposal this cycle? Come to our Proposal Workshop to get your questions answered and your ideas moving.

When: Monday, November 2, 7:00–9:00 PM

What we’ll cover:

  • How the STF proposal process works and key deadlines
  • What makes a strong proposal, including budgets and justifications
  • Common mistakes to avoid
  • Open Q&A and one-on-one time to talk through your project ideas

Whether you’re a first-time proposer or have submitted before, this is a great chance to get feedback before you submit. Feel free to bring a draft or just an idea.

Hart Howerton travel fellowship – applications now open

Named by Architectural Digest as “one of the fellowship programs paving the way for the future of architecture,” the Hart Howerton Fellowship is open to undergraduate and graduate students in planning, architecture, landscape architecture, and interior design entering their final year of study.  Fellows have the opportunity to pursue a research topic of their choice while interning at either Hart Howerton’s New York or San Francisco office.

About us

R2 Architecture + Planning is a small architecture and planning firm serving the Pacific Northwest, including Washington and Oregon. Most of our work is residential new construction and remodels, multifamily, and ADUs, along with commercial projects. We’re a small team that works closely together on shared project files, so interns do real project work from day one, not busywork. Basics Matter is a two-day virtual training that will provide an overview of code essentials. It will discuss the foundation of a working code knowledge and is a great primer for design professionals early in their career.

Topics will explore how code knowledge supports safe, inclusive and resilient design; how codes are developed; and the permitting process. This session is for design professionals that are early in their career and/or seeking to deepen understanding of code basics.
