Project Description

Rootline explores a new model for low-rise multifamily housing within Seattle’s Fremont Residential Urban Village. Created for a local family seeking to redevelop property they have stewarded for generations, the 13-unit project responds to the need for additional housing while maintaining the scale and character of the surrounding neighborhood. Guided by principles of reciprocity, stability, and human-centered design, the project creates homes that support both current and future residents.

The design organizes family-sized units around efficient circulation and a shared landscape that encourages everyday interaction. Flexible floor plans accommodate changing household needs, while accessible and adaptable features allow residents to remain in their homes through different stages of life. High-quality interiors emphasize comfort, natural light, and durability, creating welcoming spaces designed for long-term use.

Rootline also addresses the economic realities of housing development. Financial feasibility strategies support lasting family ownership and stewardship, ensuring the property can remain a long-term community asset. By combining thoughtful density, adaptable housing, and shared outdoor spaces, the project offers a model for neighborhood growth that strengthens community connections while contributing to Seattle’s evolving housing landscape.
