Diversity

The Department of Architecture at the University of Washington is committed to expanding the capacity for all people to participate in shaping our shared built environments. In addition to examination of what we teach and how we teach for inherent inequities and biases, we are making efforts to build a faculty, staff and student body that reflects and is responsive to the gender, ethnic and cultural diversity of the broader community served by the University of Washington. Our efforts include: effective faculty recruitment, mentoring, and retention; broad outreach to potential student applicants; and teaching courses and studios that work with diverse groups of people in the community.

We are also committed to actively maintain a Diversity Plan that will be expanded and updated regularly. The department is participating in broader endeavors as part of the College of Built Environment’s prioritization of equity and inclusion, with specific goals for policy and research in the upcoming CBE Strategic Plan.
