Affiliate Associate Professor
David Strauss, Ph.D. is a practicing architect, a partner at SHKS Architects and an affiliate associate professor in the Department of Architecture at the University of Washington. Joining architectural theory and practice remains a primary interest of his. He has taught both design studios and seminars in architecture theory.
His recent professional work has included the addition to and renovation of Seattle’s Magnolia Library, the exterior renovation of UW’s Guthrie Hall, renovations of the Lake Wilderness Lodge in Maple Valley, and the renovation of UW’s Suzzallo Library. His research has included his dissertation, In Campo Verde: The Project of the Piazza Nuova in Ferrara and essays, Building Maintenance and Scale. Strauss is on the Board of Directors of the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation and served as a member of the Pioneer Square Preservation Board from 2002 to 2008. He received both his Ph.D. and B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and his M.Arch. from the University of Washington.
